An Australian Tradition

Every two years the Brisbane city council arranges to collect large items such as used appliances from people's homes. So everyone puts out an astonishing variety of miscellaneous and improbable items over the two week period. Then they go around picking up items from other people's piles and bring them home. Very interesting. Above is our pile and a shot of the desk chair after someone added it to their pickup truck pile.

Birding Lockyear Valley After Rains

It has been raining a lot so we went birding today in the Lockyear Valley to see if we could find any good birds. It was wonderful to see so much water and see everything so green. Saw lots of birds and even found a wild koala! The small birds on the ground above are cockatiels, which you often see in pet shops.

Visit to Barossa Valley, South Australia
.jpg)

We decided to take a trip to the Barossa Valley while in Adelaide as we'd never been there. We took the fantastic "taste the Barossa" tour which we would highly recommend!

Each vineyard was very unique, and the wines were all amazing!

Midway through the day we had a lovely lunch at the Peter Lehmann vineyard, which had my favorite wines of the day (although we tasted an excellent port at Langmeil vineyards, as in the photo below).

Trip to Adelaide
.jpg)

.jpg)
Tim had a conference in Adelaide, so I flew down to join him. We stayed in an amazing hotel in Glenelg, with spectacular views (see above). We did lots of cool things, including a visit to the Barossa, but in Adelaide the best thing we did was visit the natural history museum and see the great exhibit of Australian Wildlife (see below). A really well-thought out exhibit.
