Today we found this shed snakes skin in the rafters of our porch. We thnk Sophie has left her calling card!

Snake in the Toilet

Today we came home from work to discover our resident carpet python, Sophie, had somehow found her way into the house and had made her way to the guest bathroom. (Luckily we have no guests at the moment!)

Sophie was pretty calm. I managed to get her unwound from around the toilet, slid her into an empty box, and carried her outside. She was pretty calm about the whole thing. When I put the box down she just calmly and slowly made for the nearest bush!

I really like having the snakes and other wildlife around the house - even though some people don't like snakes we don't mind and it certainly keeps the mice and the possums away!

A visit from Sophie

While I was merrily sipping cocktails on the beach in Rio, Tim had a visit from our resident carpet python, Sophie (who has grown a lot bigger since the last time we saw her...)

Snake Excitement!

Today we had some excitement when we went to move a rug that had been drying of the porch - a snake. We were unsure what kind it was and so we called the local snake removal guy. He recommended we take a photo and email it to him, so he could see if it was poisonous. While initially we thought this was not the easiest thing to do, it was simeple to get the photo, after which we figured out it was a green tree snake (non-poisonous). It was an olive-brownish one, which is why we did not identify it immediately. The snake guy concurred and so we left it alone (it was gone by the next day...)

More Snake Excitement

Well, we've had no luck relocating Sophie, but today Tim spotted Jasper from the verandah! Jasper is a 7 foot long carpet python, and he is just beautiful! We watched him all day, and into the evening. He moved along the side of the house, then curled up in a bush near the laundry for a while. The next day we found him high in a tree out back - the circle shows how far he climbed! Jasper stayed there in the tree for a day, then we lost track of him. Although the cats wanted to meet Jasper, we thought it best they remain unacquainted....

Snake on the Back Porch!

Tonight our friends Debbie and Ottmar and their daughter Sophie, with their friend Frances, visited for dinner. What a great surprise to be able to show them a young carpet python happily sitting in our verandah roof! We have named the snake Sophie in honor of our young friend... we hope she (the snake!) stays around for a while...
