Growing Trees for the Back Yard



We have a lot of tall beautiful trees in our front yard and we want to extend our forest a bit in the back yard. So we have bought about three dozen seedling trees, mostly the pine-like casuarinas that the black cockatoos love, to transplant into the back yard. These have been growing for about 6 weeks. I will plant them in the fall. Our grevilleas (below) are also in full bloom after recent rains...

Botanical Gardens




Today we went to the Brisbane Botanical Gardens to get an idea of types of plants we might want to get for parts of our garden. We are planning on planting screening hedges between our house and our neighbor's house, as well as some ground cover plants in the front and out the back, under our bedroom.

Identifying the Plants Around Our House

Later today our friend and plant expert Mike Humphreys came over to help us identify all the different plants and trees in our backyard. He also made suggestions for what trees and flowering shrubs we should plant to attract birds. The pretty plant above, unfortunately, is a weed.
