Growing Trees for the Back Yard
We have a lot of tall beautiful trees in our front yard and we want to extend our forest a bit in the back yard. So we have bought about three dozen seedling trees, mostly the pine-like casuarinas that the black cockatoos love, to transplant into the back yard. These have been growing for about 6 weeks. I will plant them in the fall. Our grevilleas (below) are also in full bloom after recent rains...

Joint Psychiatry and Psychology Conference, Gold Coast
Unbelievably, after over a year of planning, the first joint meeting of geriatric psychiatrists and psychologists in Australia was held, and was a success (see webpage HERE)! This was in no small measure due to the excellent invited speakers, including Ken Laidlaw from Scotland, Stephanie Allison from New Zealand and Osvaldo Almeida from Perth, Australia. Quick Trip to Mission Beach
We are spending the weekend in Mission Beach visiting out friends Gavin, Michelle and ther kids. Michelle is a geologist on sabatical here from Boston. When we landed we decided to have breakfast (HUGE!) at Nu Nu's in Palm Cove, which won best breakfast in Queensland for 2009. Tim had a version of a Croque Monsieur, and I had the pancakes with ricotta and fresh date filling. Our hotel is right next to the sea with a great view of Dunk Island...

Trip to Australia Zoo
Today we took Jim and Sarah to Australia Zoo, still home to the Crocodile Hunter. It is always a good place to show off Australia's wildlife.
We loved watching a tiny little girl getting her photo taken with the huge albino python... Jim and Sarah's photo was great (but less dramatic...)
After Australia Zoo we drove into Toorbul where we saw lots of wild kangaroos hanging around, as usual...
