13th Anniversary Get-Away

This weekend we went down to the Gold Coast to celebrate our anniversary a little early. We went up into the mountains to a Polish cafe for an afternoon coffee and cake. The Polish coffee was a little...thick! 

Beautiful Views

This resort is called "Avica" and caters especially for weddings. This was the view from our room, looking towards Mount Tamborine to the west. 

Beautiful Grounds

The grounds are very lovely. Last time we were there the wedding party drove up to the chapel in a horse-drawn carriage.

The Prius Arrives!

Today the car arrived - they delivered it right to campus. i tricked Tim into taking a walk wit me - when we went by the car he said "Wow this is just like what we ordered!" Then I turned the car on remotely - he thought it was TOO COOL! 

Lone Pine

Bob and Deb Hill took in the koalas at Lone Pine Park - this enclosure is the "Retirement Village."

A colleague of mine, Bob Hill and his wife Deborah, came to visit us here this month. 

Natural Bridge

We went to a place called "Natural Bridge" which is on the Gold Coast. Very cool place. 

Glow Worms

This cave at the park has glow worms in it - they look like tiny stars on the roof of the cave. 

A Big Birding Trip!

So this week in a little town called Wee Waa, a bird that was a first for Australia showed up. So we drove all the way from Brisbane to Wee Waa (about 5 hrs) to see if we could see it.

A Lovely Drive

It was a beautiful drive out there, though.... 

Grey-headed Lapwing

We saw the bird - a grey-headed lapwing - just hanging out in the middle of a field. The very first time this bird has been seen here in Australia. So cool that we were able to see it. 

A nice drive back...

Then we had a great drive home through the mountains back to Brisbane.
