Off to New Zealand
It was great that Tim's surgery worked out so well as I had to be on a flight to New Zealand at 8am the next day, in order to get there in time to give a keynote address on the Thursday! So I left the cats in charge and headed off. Tim and I skyped every day and it was great for him to rest at home (he is in very little pain, mainly feeling tired).
My keynote went well and the old age psychology (NZPOPS) conference (which was held in New Plymouth on the North Island) was fantastic! The food both in the hotel and in the Italian restaurant next door (both overlooking the sea) was great (the fish pictured is gurnard).

Tim's Surgery Successful!
Tim's surgery today was a great success! After checking in at 7am he had his vital signs checked by the nurse. (I loved the sign that said "Shave Dr Franz's patients"!). Tim then got fitted with his anti-embolic stockings (necessary, as you can see from the sign, as he was Dr Shaw's patient) and booties and was off to surgery at 10am. He was out by 1pm, and we left to go home at just before 5pm, and were home by 6pm. Tim was still pretty groggy. We decided to test the success of the surgery with Indian take-aways (not vindaloo, don't worry!) and he pronounced it a great success right before he fell asleep!

Roma, Australia
Today I flew up to the small inland town of Roma to give a talk for Alzeimer's Australia. We got stranded for a few hours at the "airport" in Roma (pictured) - not really lots to do there....

Update on Zamboni
Zamboni had a bad reaction to his antibiotics but we have switched medications and hopefully he will continue to improve.
